A 44-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to wounding her cohabiting partner with intent was given a three-month hospital order on 8 October 2026.

The assault took place at their home in Sai Kung on 8 July 2025. The prosecution said she attacked the 66-year-old man with a hiking pole and a cleaver. He suffered three head lacerations and was taken to hospital for stitches.

The woman was remanded to a psychiatric hospital after her case first came before the court and received treatment there. Psychiatric reports cited by the judge said her condition had improved, although she continued to have delusional thoughts.

The judge said she had acted under the influence of mental illness and had not premeditated the offence. The injuries were not slight, the judge said, but there was no evidence of permanent disability. The court accepted the reports’ recommendation for a hospital order; the judge said doctors could apply to extend her detention depending on her circumstances.
