A 22-year-old woman who reported being robbed at Amoy Plaza was arrested the following day on suspicion of misleading police, Ming Pao reported.
She had told police that a man pushed her in a shopping-centre stairwell on the night of October 16 and took about HK$11,000. She was carrying the cash to deposit it at an ATM.
Star Headline reported that police suspected she and a male friend had staged the robbery to misappropriate company funds; she was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, and the man was being sought.
