Residents will be able to watch events from the Nagoya Asian Games at designated sports centres across all 18 districts. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) plans to run the viewing stations throughout the Games, which take place from 19 September to 4 October.
The station at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre is scheduled to open from 5pm to 8pm on 19 September. From 20 September, the stated daily opening hours are 8am to 9pm.
The launch at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre was accompanied by community sports activities, including volleyball and freestyle-football demonstrations. The programme links the public screenings with the LCSD’s wider work to promote participation in sport.
The deputy director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau said Hong Kong had sent about 580 athletes to compete in 38 sports at the Games. The LCSD also plans six sports days from September to December, focused on football, basketball and volleyball.
A volleyball-themed community activity listed for 19 September will include demonstrations of volleyball, football and basketball techniques, a fitness routine and an elite exhibition match. Three athletes are due to share their experiences with members of the public.
