The Hong Kong Monetary Authority said all 28 retail banks have agreed to extend repayment deferrals for residents affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire until the end of May 2027.

The further six-month extension covers existing mortgages, personal loans and credit-card loans, giving some affected residents more time to arrange housing and manage their finances.

A separate arrangement covers Wang Fuk Court mortgages. Banks will continue assisting mortgage borrowers who are selling their ownership interests in the estate to the government, while handling the related mortgages flexibly.

That flexibility includes extending the original mortgage repayment deferral until borrowers move into their newly purchased units. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority said it would continue working with the banking association and banks to monitor residents’ needs and tailor help to individual cases.
