A black dog escaped through a wire fence as police and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department staff tried to capture it during a renewed search in Yuen Long on 21 September, following a fatal dog attack reported in the area.
The afternoon operation covered roughly two kilometres around Pok Wai South Road, Pok Wai West Road and Kam Pok Road. About 20 personnel searched warehouse yards, private warehouses, bicycle paths, shaded areas and other places where stray dogs might shelter. Police carried shields while department staff used dog-catching loops.
The search also took officials into warehouse areas, where they checked dogs for microchips and handed owners leaflets reminding them to manage dogs kept at the sites properly. Dogs at one warehouse on Kam Pok Road were confirmed to have microchips.
A nearby villager told Ming Pao that three or four stray dogs were often seen in the area and that vehicle fenders had been bitten. The villager also said people commonly came to feed the dogs, and that a cat chased by them several days earlier was suspected to have been bitten to death. Dogs connected with the incident could still be hiding nearby, the villager said.
The joint operation was expected to continue for a week.
