A burst fresh-water main flooded Tai Lin Pai Road in Kwai Chung on September 25, leaving an area of subsidence measuring about 5 metres by 15 metres at the junction with Ka Ting Road. The incident happened at about 6pm, with police receiving multiple reports of flooding shortly afterwards.
Part of Kwai Chung Road northbound towards Tai Lin Pai Road was temporarily closed, along with the left turn from Kwai On Road into Tai Lin Pai Road. Vehicles and pedestrians moved slowly through the water. By about 8pm, the floodwater had receded, but mud remained on the road while repair workers stayed at the scene.
The Water Supplies Department said the burst involved a 400-millimetre fresh-water pipe and affected the supply to one industrial building at 10-16 Kwai Ting Road. It had shut the water valve and begun clearing and repairing the site, while placing a water tank nearby for people who needed water during the repairs. The building’s supply would be restored as soon as possible, the department said.
