The trial of Cai Tianfeng’s former husband, former father-in-law and former elder brother-in-law is scheduled to begin at the High Court on 21 September 2026, with the hearing expected to last 45 days.
Each defendant faces one murder charge and one charge of preventing the lawful burial of a body. The charges allege that Cai was murdered on 21 February 2023 on the ground floor of a village house in Tai Po.
The burial-related charge covers the period from 21 to 23 February 2023, according to the charges reported by Ming Pao. The case is due to be heard by an acting High Court judge with a jury.
The Judiciary is expected to open one extension courtroom alongside the main courtroom for members of the public who want to observe the proceedings. The reports said no special arrangement to distribute admission tickets was planned.
