A charge against a 19-year-old student over an alleged Instagram post about explosives at the Lai King Assessment Centre was withdrawn at a magistrates’ court in West Kowloon on 28 September 2026.
Police had found an Instagram post allegedly saying explosives would be placed at the centre. They searched the assessment centre and found no suspicious items. The student had been charged with one count of bomb-hoax conduct.
The charge alleged that she had communicated a message in Hong Kong on 17 July 2026, intending to make others believe that the centre contained a bomb or another object capable of exploding or catching fire. The prosecution told the court it had consulted the Department of Justice for legal advice before applying to withdraw the charge. The chief magistrate approved the application, and the charge was withdrawn.
