The Centre for Food Safety found doxycycline residue above the legal limit in a sample of refrigerated, bone-in whole chicken legs weighing 240–260g. The sample was taken through the Centre’s routine food surveillance programme. Commercial Radio reported that the residue level was 80% above the limit.
The importer recalled affected batches on the Centre’s instruction. Consumers have been told to stop eating those batches, while food businesses should stop using or selling them.
The Centre said the residue found in the sample would not cause adverse health effects under normal consumption conditions.
