A taxi driver who became suspicious of a passenger’s repeated directions reportedly used code words to alert fellow drivers, helping police intercept the cab in Kowloon City and arrest the 19-year-old on suspicion of drug trafficking.
The driver said the journey lasted more than an hour. Concerned that the cab was being used to distribute drugs, he contacted other taxi drivers through a communications application and shared the passenger’s movements and next destination.
The information was passed to police, who reportedly deployed officers to wait near Tung Tsing Road. At about 6am on 22 September, officers stopped the taxi when it reached the road and arrested the passenger.
i-CABLE News reported that a search of the taxi found 10 packets of a suspected drug and 30 cartridges suspected of containing etomidate. The items were in a black plastic bag inside the vehicle.
