A civet was found dead beside Hong Kin Road outside Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre on 18 September, with the carcass lying by the roadside near 21 Hong Kin Road.
The driver’s account, reported by Star Headline, was that he had struck an animal he believed was a raccoon. Police identified the carcass as a civet, while Ming Pao reported that vehicle impact was suspected.
Officers moved the carcass on to the pavement and covered it with a black plastic bag after confirming that the animal was dead.
Department staff were called to the scene and removed the carcass later that night.
