A postman was bitten from behind by a dog as he got off his bicycle to deliver mail in Mai Po on September 11, according to the chairman of the postal workers’ union. The worker suffered injuries to his waist and leg as he approached a mailbox or a home.
The chairman said the postman called for help, prompting the homeowner to take the dog away. The worker reported the incident to police and received hospital treatment. Although he knew dogs were present in the area, he could not avoid the attack when he had to dismount and approach a home.
The union says frontline postmen currently have no protective equipment against dog attacks. Its chairman urged the government and the relevant department to improve workers’ occupational safety, while calling on dog owners to properly restrain or tie up their animals.
