A passer-by’s report of a driver apparently unconscious in a private car led to a suspected dangerous-drug arrest after police found four smoking cartridges suspected of containing etomidate inside the vehicle.
The incident happened at about 9am on September 19 on Tsz Wan Shan Road, near Yuk Wah Street and outside No. 8. Police identified the driver as a 36-year-old man surnamed Lam and found that he was not seriously ill and had not fainted.
Lam passed an alcohol breath test, while a rapid oral-fluid test was negative. During further investigation, officers found the four suspected etomidate-containing cartridges, which police estimated had a market value of about HK$1,200.
Lam was arrested on suspicion of possessing dangerous drugs and was being detained for investigation. He was also ticketed over alleged failures to display a valid vehicle licence and the registration number assigned to the car.
