A 50-year-old mainland man had been charged after police officers posing as passengers booked a cross-border ride from Tin Shui Wai to Huizhou. HK01 later reported that he was due to appear at Fanling Magistrates' Court on 4 November.
Police said officers arranged the trip through a social-media account and revealed their identities after the journey began. The driver was suspected of carrying passengers for reward, driving without third-party insurance and breaching his conditions of stay. The locally registered seven-seater, fitted with cross-border plates, was seized for inspection.
Police warned that third-party insurance may be invalid when a vehicle is used illegally for paid passenger services. If there is an accident, that could affect protection for passengers, pedestrians and other road users.
