Spectators began arriving shortly after 5pm, with many residents and visitors lining Tai Hang’s roads by 6pm for the annual fire-dragon procession. The event began on 24 September and is scheduled to continue for three consecutive nights.
The dragon measures 67 metres and carries about 12,000 incense sticks. More than 300 performers led it through Tai Hang’s main streets and smaller lanes when the procession began at 7pm.
Before entering the streets, the dragon was taken to a Tai Hang temple, where its head was illuminated and its eyes dotted as part of the preparation ceremony.
One first-time local viewer told Star Headline they had arrived early to photograph the dragon, experience the traditional fire-dragon dance and attend the procession on its opening night.
