An elderly woman reportedly felt unwell after inhaling smoke and was taken to hospital following a fire at a restaurant on Shek Yin Road, Kwai Chung, at about 10.09am on September 10, 2026. Ming Pao reported the hospitalisation, while Star Headline said nobody was hurt. About 50 diners evacuated on their own.
Large amounts of smoke emerged from the restaurant’s rear alley and, according to one report, moved towards upstairs residential units. Firefighters used a hose to extinguish the fire; a breathing-apparatus team was also reportedly deployed and water was used for cooling.
The fire was suspected to have started when a cooking stove flared up and affected or ignited the restaurant’s exhaust hood or exhaust duct. Reports identify the location as either No. 64 on the ground floor or within Nos. 44–66 on Shek Yin Road.
Star Headline reported that firefighting operations had ended by 10.22am. The woman’s medical condition, the precise address, the confirmed cause of the fire and the extent of any damage were not given in the reports.
