Nominations for the 2026 Election Committee subsector elections will open on Wednesday 7 October and close on Tuesday 20 October, giving prospective candidates two weeks to enter the race.
Voting is scheduled for 22 November in any subsector where the number of validly nominated candidates exceeds the number of seats available. The seat allocation for each subsector was gazetted and uploaded to the election website on 22 September.
The Election Committee has 1,500 seats in total. Of these, 982 are filled through elections, covering areas including business and finance, professional groups and grassroots representation. The remaining seats are filled through ex-officio membership or nominations by organisations, according to i-CABLE News.
To stand, a candidate must be at least 18, be a registered elector in a geographical constituency, and either be registered as a voter in the relevant subsector or have a close connection with it, the Registration and Electoral Office said.
Candidates must also secure nominations from at least five voting organisations or individuals in the relevant subsector, i-CABLE News reported.
Anyone considering a nomination will need to check the published seat allocation and the rules for their subsector before submitting papers. The eligibility requirements, disqualification conditions and other requirements for candidates are set out in sections 17, 17A, 18, 18A, 19 and 20 of the Chief Executive Election Ordinance, Chapter 569.
