An empty taxi collided with the rear of a roadside engineering vehicle at about midnight on southbound Yau Cheung Road near MTR Kowloon Station and Elements. The taxi was reportedly unable to brake in time, although the cause of the crash has not been confirmed.
The engineering vehicle had a lifting platform and was preparing to remove a promotional banner from a lamp post when the collision occurred.
The 60-year-old taxi driver, surnamed Yip, was briefly trapped and was rescued by firefighters. He was conscious when taken to Kwong Wah Hospital, with reports describing abrasions to his limbs and chest pain.
The engineering vehicle’s 27-year-old driver, surnamed Ho, and two workers were reportedly unhurt.
The taxi’s front was badly damaged, its windscreen was shattered and debris was scattered across the road. The rear of the engineering vehicle was also damaged.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
