A section of false ceiling fell in the ground-floor lobby of Hong King Building in San Po Kong at about 5pm on 6 November, blocking the entrance.
No one was reported injured. Residents had to use other entrances to get home. One reported route crossed the ground-floor shopping area, took the lift from the B entrance to the seventh floor, then crossed the car park to Block A and used another lift.
The fallen false-ceiling section was about 10 by 10 feet; the Buildings Department said the concrete that fell measured about 2.5 by 5 metres and brought down part of the ceiling.
After inspecting the building, the Buildings Department found no obvious danger to its overall structure, but said some concrete and false-ceiling material remained loose. The building’s management company arranged for a contractor to inspect and remove the loose material.
A report the following day said workers were clearing debris and residents were still using other entrances.
