A 53-year-old father has admitted eight offences against his 11-year-old daughter, including four charges of administering drugs to obtain or facilitate unlawful sexual activity, three indecent-assault charges and one attempted-rape charge.
The offences took place between 2022 and 2023 while the defendant was living with the girl and her brother. The prosecution said he repeatedly gave her between 10 and 15 tablets described as vitamins. She became dizzy, experienced hallucinations or lost her memory, and was sexually assaulted while asleep or impaired, the court heard. She later called her mother and reported repeated assaults; her mother then contacted police.
The girl was taken to hospital for examination on 21 April 2023. The court heard that a urine drug screen was positive for zopiclone and that a forensic examination found a recent vaginal tear. Police also said the defendant admitted all the incidents when questioned under caution.
Judge Andrew Chan adjourned sentencing to 20 October while psychiatric and psychological reports on the defendant, and a trauma assessment for the child, were sought.
The prosecution told the court that the child had declined to undergo the trauma assessment. Chan said the court understood her difficulty and reluctance to revisit the events, and hoped she could receive psychological help if she had not already done so.
The defendant remains remanded at a psychiatric hospital while the reports are prepared.
