A 48-year-old father has pleaded guilty at the High Court to 14 rape counts involving his daughter, after the court heard that the abuse continued for almost six years. A judge ordered a psychological report on the defendant before sentencing.
The offences covered the period from 2015 to 2021. The girl was six when the abuse began and 12 when it ended, according to the prosecution case presented in court. The locations included the family home, hotels and a disabled toilet in a shopping centre.
The prosecution said the defendant used online-game account top-ups, toys, money and help with schoolwork as inducements or leverage, and threatened to reduce her spending money or withhold help with homework when she resisted.
The court heard that the defendant took the girl to hotels frequently during the period of offending. Hotel records cited by the prosecution showed 50 stays at three hotels between 2019 and 2021. The prosecution also said he took her out on many Sundays.
The girl eventually disclosed the abuse to a secondary-school social worker when she was 12. The prosecution account said she had come to believe that her refusals would be ignored, while the defendant continued to use rewards and threats to control her.
The judge said the eventual sentence would be long and adjourned the case to 4 November 2026 for sentencing. The defendant was remanded in custody while the psychological report is prepared.
