A fire broke out in a container office at the Prince of Wales Hospital redevelopment site in Sha Tin on September 14, but no one was injured and hospital operations and patient services were unaffected, the hospital said.
Smoke and a suspected fire were reported at about 9pm. The hospital said it was notified by the redevelopment contractor at about 9:46pm that a container at the site had caught fire, after which site staff called for help.
The incident was initially classified as a No. 1 alarm before being upgraded to No. 2. Search-and-rescue personnel, firefighters and breathing-apparatus teams were sent to the site. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after about half an hour, Ming Pao reported, and the fire department issued a stop-mobilisation message at 10:16pm.
Ming Pao reported that the cause had not been determined. The hospital said it had instructed the contractor to investigate the incident and take measures to ensure fire safety at the redevelopment site.
