Four people were injured when a private car collided with a bus and caught fire on Sha Tin Tau Road near Sun Tin Wai Estate at about 12.50am on September 24. The injured people were two drivers and two passengers, who were taken by ambulance to Prince of Wales Hospital.
The private car apparently lost control while travelling uphill and turning, crossing the centre line into the path of a bus operated by The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. The bus was travelling downhill towards a depot. Police were investigating the cause of the collision.
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department classified the incident as a first-level vehicle fire involving people trapped. Firefighters sprayed water on the burning car, cooled it afterwards and helped people leave the vehicle. All four injured people were reported to have remained conscious.
The bus suffered major front-end damage, while debris and broken glass were scattered across the road. It later displayed a message saying its service was suspended. Fire-service operations ended at 1.01am.
