Four temporary CCTV sets with thermal-detection capability have been installed on a Yuen Long road after a 27-year-old woman was reportedly chased and attacked by several dogs while cycling home in the early hours. She later died, according to Star Headline.
The system is intended to monitor whether dogs gather or remain in the area at night, when visibility is poor. The information is expected to help the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and police respond.
At a Legislative Council security meeting on 24 September, Tang Ping-keung responded to criticism of his earlier comments that CCTV would not stop dogs attacking people. He said the Sharp Eyes Project was designed for crime prevention and detection, rather than preventing dog attacks, but footage could help understand the circumstances of an incident.
He also said some media outlets or people seeking to harm national security had selectively quoted and distorted his remarks.
