Fourteen cats left without care after Tuen Mun woman found dead

Fourteen cats were left without care after a woman in her fifties was found dead in her flat on Tseng Choi Street, Tuen Mun, on 22 September.

Her mother had reported losing contact with her for several days, prompting police and rescue workers to attend the home. The cause of death remains under investigation pending examination.

The cats may have gone for one to two days without food or water, according to a pet supplies company’s social-media post. Animal welfare officers checked them. The company said its staff then took them with the woman’s mother’s consent and arranged temporary care at a cat hotel.

A worker involved in the rescue said one cat was paralysed in both hind legs, about 10 had skin problems and three or four had damaged toes.

The 14 cats cost HK$500 a day to foster. The worker hoped homes could be found quickly.
