Heavy cargo falls onto car on Tolo Highway as lanes are closed

Heavy cargo fell from a tractor unit onto a private car on Tolo Highway near Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works at about 8am, sending the car into a roadside barrier, with traffic congestion reported.

The driver was reported injured and conscious and had got out of the vehicle by the time rescue personnel arrived. Rescue personnel had been sent to the scene after an initial report that someone might be trapped.

Some lanes were closed in both directions near the sewage treatment works. The Transport Department announced the lane closures, while bus services could be affected. Drivers heading towards Tai Po were advised to consider alternative roads or public transport.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash. Star Headline reported that the tractor unit's load was suspected of being unstable before the heavy cargo fell.
