Hong Kong police said the National Security Department arrested a 34-year-old local company director in Mong Kok on November 5 on suspicion of importing publications with seditious intent.
Police said he allegedly imported the books in October for sale at a local bookshop, intending to incite hatred, contempt or disaffection towards the central and Hong Kong governments. The alleged offence is importing publications with seditious intent under section 24 of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. He was detained for investigation.
Commercial Radio and Star Headline reported that the man was a member of the prisoners’ support platform Waiting Bird.
Waiting Bird said in a social-media post that a shipment of books from Taiwan, due at a shop on October 13, was delayed by a week, with only half of the two boxes reaching the shop and more than 60 books possibly detained by the Customs and Excise Department.
