Hong Kong Customs has warned consumers to stop using the XPower M10C+6 in 1 Magnetic Wireless Power Bank 10000mAh after safety testing found that a metal object placed between the charger and a device during wireless charging could reach 131.4°C. Customs had earlier seized 220 units from a retailer.
One report said Customs also issued the retailer a prohibition notice preventing further sales of the product.
During testing, the metal object's temperature ranged from 86.6°C to 131.4°C, exceeding the stated permissible limit of 85°C.
Customs' safety findings also said the charger overheated under those conditions and failed a burn test.
Customs said the power bank did not comply with relevant international safety standards and allegedly breached Hong Kong's Consumer Goods Safety Ordinance.
The case remained under investigation at the time of the reports. Customs urged members of the public to stop using the product; no information was provided on refunds, recalls or disposal arrangements.
