Hong Kong is forecast to reach about 32°C in urban areas on September 24, with the New Territories one or two degrees hotter. The maximum ultraviolet index is expected to be about 9, rated very high by the Hong Kong Observatory.
The morning may begin with periods of cloud and isolated showers in some areas before becoming generally sunny and hot. The Observatory expects moderate easterly winds as well.
The Mid-Autumn Festival on September 25 should be mostly sunny and dry during the day, with a high of 32°C. The following public holiday is forecast to be partly sunny and hot, reaching 33°C. Hot, mostly dry weather should continue from September 27 to 29.
A tropical system was about 1,170 kilometres southeast of Okinawa at 8am on September 24, moving west-northwest and expected to strengthen. The Observatory said it was more likely to turn north towards Japan after moving towards the waters east of Taiwan, although a route across Taiwan towards the eastern Guangdong coast remained possible. The forecast becomes less settled later, with isolated showers possible on September 30 and more cloud and showers around October 1 and 2.
