Chief Executive John Lee said Hong Kong would launch a Green Technology Bridgehead Programme next year to help mainland and overseas green enterprises take their solutions to Belt and Road markets.
Lee announced the plan at the Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference, held in Hong Kong for the first time. The event included discussions on green technology, environmental data and green finance.
He described Hong Kong as a green and sustainable finance hub that connects projects with global capital. As a hypothetical example, he said a solar project could bring together mainland equipment suppliers, a Southeast Asian developer and Middle Eastern investors. Hong Kong could help them raise finance, structure investments, arrange insurance and manage cross-border risks.
