A power bank in a carry-on bag beneath a passenger’s seat overheated and began smoking aboard HK Express flight UO676 from Hong Kong to Jeju on October 25. Korean media reports said the passenger burned her hand while trying to remove it.
The crew placed the device in a fire-resistant bag and immersed it in water, bringing the situation under control. The aircraft landed safely at Jeju International Airport in the early morning.
HK Express said the passenger was examined and received further treatment after disembarking. The airline said no other passengers were injured.
