Hong Kong’s 2026/27 seasonal flu vaccination programme is under way, with the quota available to eligible doctors increased from 100,000 to 300,000 doses.
Chief Executive John Lee led 22 officials in getting vaccinated on the morning of September 23 and urged residents to get their shots early. He said vaccination was one of the most effective ways to prevent seasonal flu and its complications, and could reduce the risks of hospitalisation and death from flu.
The government has also announced that it will buy vaccines from more than one supplier, introduce electronic consent through eHealth, allow more doctors — including those in the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme — to procure vaccines, and increase community outreach.
More than 2.03 million doses were administered across the 2025/26 programmes, while uptake among people aged six months to under 18 reached 64.8% last season.
Children and adolescents, people with chronic illnesses, people aged 50 or above, pregnant women and healthcare workers can receive free or subsidised seasonal flu vaccination.
