Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises says 142 strategic enterprises have settled in the city, committing HK$84 billion in investment and about 26,700 jobs.

The office’s director-general, Peter Yan, said capital investment from the first six batches was about 30% above projected commitments, while job creation exceeded expectations by about 34%.

The office has contacted more than 1,000 companies. Yan said it selects about 20–30% for in-depth follow-up and development planning in Hong Kong. Companies submit five-year plans detailing their first-year investment and first Hong Kong project, so the office can connect them with policies, universities, investors and business partners.

Yan said some enterprises had fallen short of expectations because of market changes, acquisitions, recruitment difficulties or a gap between their expectations and the business environment.
