A Hong Kong High Court jury has convicted student Y.L.H. of five sexual offences involving five female complainants: one count of rape, three counts of indecent assault and one count of voyeurism. The case was adjourned for mitigation and sentencing the following day, with Y.L.H. remanded in custody.
The alleged incidents were reported to have taken place between 13 January and 28 August 2023 at several locations, including Fei Ngo Shan, a holiday resort in Yuen Long, a vehicle or roadside location, and the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association Leung Shiu Wing Holiday Camp.
The complainants, identified in court as A, B, C, D and E, gave allegations relating to separate incidents. A alleged that Y.L.H. drove her to Fei Ngo Shan and demanded a sexual act. B alleged that he raped her while they were alone at the Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club Tai Tong Holiday Resort in Yuen Long on 23 July 2023. C alleged that he touched her thigh and breasts while driving her home, while D alleged repeated touching. E alleged that he entered while she was showering and pulled open the shower curtain after being told the bathroom lock was defective.
Y.L.H. denied all charges at trial and did not give evidence personally. A recorded interview was played in court, in which he denied the allegations. Ming Pao reported that he also made a disparaging comment about the appearance of women he said he had previously dated; the comment was part of the recorded interview rather than an established finding in the case.
According to Ming Pao, the jury comprised six men and one woman and deliberated for about seven hours. It unanimously convicted Y.L.H. on two indecent-assault charges and found him guilty by a 6–1 majority on the remaining indecent-assault, rape and voyeurism charges.
The court was due to hear mitigation and impose sentence the following day. No sentence had been reported in the supplied accounts, and Y.L.H. was to remain in custody in the meantime.
