A 29-year-old first-grade inspector with the Housing Department has been charged over alleged illegal betting involving more than 400 wagers and total stakes of about HK$500,000.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption said its investigation found that the bets were allegedly placed through an illegal online platform. The charge alleges that he bet on overseas football matches from early April to early May 2026.
He appeared at Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts on September 23 and did not enter a plea. He faces one count of betting with a bookmaker, contrary to section 8 of the Gambling Ordinance, and was granted bail.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption said it had earlier received a corruption complaint and that the related investigation was continuing.
The case was adjourned to November 18 for a further hearing.
