Abby Choi’s husband was questioned about an earlier confrontation as cross-examination continued on day 17 of her murder trial at the High Court on Thursday, October 15. He agreed that his account of the retired co-defendant charging towards and touching Choi was being raised in court for the first time.

Defence counsel put to him that his March 2023 police statement said the man charged towards Choi as if to hit her, the witness intervened and the man left without touching her. The husband said the statement was brief and events had happened quickly, so it did not include all the details he gave in court.

He also described a dispute over Choi’s eldest child having a fever as the fiercest disagreement between her and the accused’s family, and identified it as the flashpoint in their differences over childcare. In a separate exchange, shown photographs of Choi with the driver accused, he agreed that at the time he saw no reason for that man to attack her. He recalled that after a police call, thinking back made everything seem frightening.

All three defendants deny murdering Choi. Two admit the separate charge of preventing the lawful burial of her body; the third denies it.
