In late October, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department received a request for help about an injured porcupine in Tai Po. Staff rescued it from a drainage channel near a village office and took it to a farm for examination.
A veterinarian suspected the injuries might be related to a trap. Department staff then searched a nearby hillside path, where they removed a wire cage containing food and another trap.
The department said it carried out more than 400 inspections targeting illegal traps in the first three quarters of the year, including nine joint operations with other departments or organisations. It seized more than 60 traps.
HK01 reported that suspected illegal hunting or traps can be reported to 1823.
