The 19th-century Kennedy Town seawall is at the centre of differing reports on its Grade 2 historic-building status. Star Headline reported proposed approval by the Antiquities Advisory Board, while RTHK said the status had been granted.
A planned pedestrian walkway would connect Belcher Bay with Cadogan Street, offering views of the seawall and helping visitors understand Kennedy Town’s former working-harbour history. Star Headline reported that the route would be about 200 metres long and 10 metres wide, requiring 0.25 hectares of reclamation.
Construction is forecast to begin in mid-2028 and finish in mid-2031, according to the reported project timetable.
Harbourfront Commission chairman Ivan Ho said the walkway’s construction would not affect the seawall. He said the design had taken its historical value into account and that construction must not compromise its stability.
Ho said the design should allow the public to view the historic seawall from different angles. He also supported using technology to present the waterfront’s history as a working harbour and help the public understand it.
