Kwai Hing Estate was still without water at about 4pm on 15 September, leaving residents to carry bags and buckets downstairs for emergency supplies as repair work continued on a leaking drinking-water pipe.
The Kwai Hing neighbourhood care team said the leak was reported at about 11pm on 14 September and that the estate’s water supply was suspended for immediate repairs. i-CABLE News reported that the outage had lasted more than 20 hours by the following afternoon.
The Water Supplies Department placed four water tanks and sent one water truck to the estate to provide temporary water for affected residents. Volunteers from the neighbourhood care team helped people at the tank collection points.
The tanks were positioned at the fire-door area of one block, the lobbies of two other blocks and an open area outside a fourth block’s lobby. The truck was stationed outside the fire-door area of the first block, giving residents five temporary collection points around the estate.
The estate management office said the leaking pipe was within the estate and was its responsibility to repair, while the Water Supplies Department was assisting with the tanks and truck. The office expected the repairs to be completed around midnight on 15 September.
