The last of Lamma Winds’ three blades was lowered on the afternoon of November 5, leaving the tower standing at the Lamma Island landmark. Dismantling began in late October. The other blades had been removed the previous week and on November 3.
HK Electric announced in March that it would close and dismantle the station, saying it had reached its 20-year lifespan limit and that dedicated parts and spares were no longer made. HK01 reported that the tower was expected to be dismantled within a month. A notice at the site gave October 2027 as the expected completion date for the demolition project.
HK Electric plans to keep some components, including a blade tip for display. It is also discussing with community stakeholders the possibility of building an exhibition centre at the site about the history of wind power.
