A warehouse off Kai Pak Ling Road in Lau Fau Shan was reported surrounded at 5:57 p.m. on 17 September after an afternoon firefighting operation.
The fire began at about 1:15 p.m., sending heavy smoke into the area, and fire services upgraded it to a No. 3 alarm at 1:29 p.m. The fireground measured about 50 metres by 30 metres. The warehouse was reported to store timber.
Reports put the number of people evacuated at between 26 and about 30. No injuries had been reported.
Firefighters used water jets and breathing-apparatus teams, with reports describing an expanded deployment of up to four of each. i-CABLE News also reported that a firefighting robot entered the fireground to assist with the operation.
The cause remained under investigation, according to Ming Pao. Fire services urged the public to avoid the fireground and advised people indoors affected by smoke or odours to close their windows and keep ventilation systems operating appropriately.
