Legislative Council members’ pay rises by 1.6%

Legislative Council members’ pay rose by 1.6% from October 1, 2026. The basic monthly salary is now HK$110,530, up HK$1,740, HK01 reported.

HK01 calculates that the increase adds HK$155,730 a month to salary spending, or about HK$1.86 million over a year. Star Headline put the broader annual increase in public spending at close to HK$2 million. Separately, HK01 said related expenditure also includes medical allowances and reimbursements for office operating costs.

Under the existing mechanism, members’ pay and the caps on these benefits are adjusted annually in line with changes in the Class C Consumer Price Index.
