Prosecutors said three students were nearly hit as they prepared to cross Kwok Shui Road in Tsuen Wan with the pedestrian signal green on 10 September. A medium goods vehicle crossed a red light.
One student pulled the other two back on to the pavement as the vehicle passed less than half an inch from them. There was no collision and none of the students was injured.
The 43-year-old lorry driver pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving at his first appearance at Sha Tin Magistrates’ Court.
The defence told the court that the driver's grandmother had died shortly before the incident and that he had become distracted while recalling memories of her. He expressed remorse and sought leniency.
The court ordered a report on a community service order and adjourned sentencing to 9 October 2026. The driver was remanded during the adjournment.
