Police arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of theft after an alleged dispute over lottery winnings from a ticket bought jointly with colleagues. He was detained for investigation; the arrest does not establish that theft occurred.
Police information reported by Star Headline and i-CABLE News says the group bought the ticket for the Mark Six draw on 5 September 2026. It reportedly won a HK$228 million jackpot, after which the participant who reported the matter and the man who bought the ticket could not agree over the winnings.
The disputed share was reported as approximately HK$30 million to HK$33 million. The purchaser allegedly did not agree to distribute it, but the police account does not state what ownership or distribution arrangement the colleagues had made.
The participant went to police on 9 September, saying that he and colleagues had jointly bought the ticket and could not reach agreement with the purchaser over the winnings. The man was arrested two days later on suspicion of theft.
Star Headline and i-CABLE News identified the arrested man as an inspector with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. FEHD said it would co-operate with the police investigation, while the man remains under investigation and the dispute over the winnings remains unresolved.
