A 49-year-old mainland Chinese man was arrested after station security staff found five suspected signal flares in his luggage at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station on September 23.
The discovery was made around 2pm as the man prepared to leave Hong Kong for mainland China by high-speed train. The items were spotted during an X-ray examination of his luggage.
Police arrested him after an initial investigation on suspicion of manufacturing or possessing explosives. He remained detained for investigation while the Yau Tsim Police District’s criminal investigation team handled the case.
No one was injured in the incident.
