Police arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of burglarising a first-floor flat at 122 Shanghai Street, Yau Ma Tei, after he allegedly fell while trying to escape. He was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital after complaining of back pain.
The incident began when a resident noticed that the flat’s door was open and heard sounds coming from inside, according to the preliminary police account carried by local media. Officers went to the building to investigate.
Police believed the man climbed out through an aluminium window and fell near the building’s rear lane. A broken tree branch and a slipper were left at the scene, according to the reports.
The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and of not carrying identity documents while outside. The arrest does not establish that a burglary took place.
The case was assigned to Team Six of the Yau Tsim District Criminal Investigation Team. The flat’s losses were still being assessed as the investigation continued.
