Police arrested a 30-year-old local man in Sheung Shui on the afternoon of 19 September on suspicion of wounding, after a woman was attacked in Yuen Long the previous night.
The 31-year-old woman was attacked with a knife on Fung Nin Road near Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School on the night of 18 September. She suffered hand injuries and the suspected attacker fled after the incident.
She was conscious when taken to Pok Oi Hospital and was later transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital.
The man remained detained for investigation, while the case was being handled by the First Team of the Criminal Support Group of Yuen Long Police District. Police said the precise reason for the attack remained under investigation.
Ming Pao, citing an unspecified source, reported that the woman had previously had a dispute with a former employer, but said it was not known whether that matter was connected to the attack.
