A 28-year-old local man was arrested in Sha Tin on September 18, a day after a claw-machine shop in Tai Wai reported that a batch of toys had been stolen. He was arrested on suspicion of theft and released on bail pending investigation.
The shop was on Chik Sau Lane. A female person in charge reported the missing toys to police on September 17, according to the police account reported by Star Headline and Ming Pao.
The shop owner had offered a HK$100,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest. Police said officers carried out an investigation and intelligence analysis, and reviewed extensive CCTV footage, including recordings from a local surveillance scheme, before making the arrest.
Ming Pao reported that under section 9 of Chapter 210, Hong Kong’s Theft Ordinance, a conviction can carry a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.
