A man aged about 70 died after being rescued unconscious from a flat fire at 22 Pok Fu Lam Road in Sai Ying Pun on October 19. About 60 people self-evacuated.

Firefighters found the man in the flat after putting out the fire. Rescuers gave him first aid and fitted him with an automatic chest-compression device before taking him by ambulance to Queen Mary Hospital, where he later died despite resuscitation efforts.

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department later said it believed the fire was not suspicious, identified the kitchen as its source and suspected cooking was involved.
