A 29-year-old unemployed man admitted indecently assaulting a woman at a public rest area in Shau Kei Wan shortly after 1am on 15 September 2026.
The court heard that the man approached the woman, identified in the proceedings as X, from behind, put an arm around her neck, touched her right breast, held her shoulder and tried to kiss her.
X used her knee to push him away and called for help. A man from a nearby fitness centre then intervened, and police later arrested the defendant.
During police questioning, the defendant said the conduct arose from sexual impulse and that he had followed X because he wanted to start a conversation. Mr Lam Tsz-hong, Kestrel rejected that explanation during sentencing, saying the defendant had used force from behind.
The magistrate described the incident as serious and said the consequences could have been serious without the passer-by’s intervention. Although the defendant had no previous criminal record, he was sentenced to four weeks’ immediate imprisonment.
